Hey guys, so winter’s almost over and we’re well into the new year. This post ‘s going to be for the girls, so winter time is the time for lazy comfy sweats and not really caring about your appearances. No one really cares about their hair or nails, because well, we’re all trying to keep warm. Well the cold’s about to leave and its about time to break out those spring colors. If you’re a nail finatic, like me, you know that spring time often brings the ugliest nails. Its time for them pedecuires and manicures guys! 😀 You do realize how bad and toxic the typical nail polish is to the enviorment right guys? Its pretty bad. The fumes and smells pollute the air,and the paint products aren’t very eco-friendly either. The thing is, there is alternatives. I’ve recently just found out about them myself. Some names would be Polished Mama, and Zora are economiclly friendly nail poilishes that not only come in over 25 different colors, but also are good for your nails, good for the envorinment, and well, its pretty. Often, not only are the the nail paint color beautiful, the bottle it self is quite interesting. Its in a nice handly sleek design, but get this guys, its biodegradable! YES GUYS, you can recycle the bottle 🙂 So next time girls, or guys that you want to get your nails dolled up, remember, you have other alternatives. Make the right choice. You can look awesome, have awesome nails, and still do good for the enviornment.
Global Warming and greenhouse emissions are becoming a bigger issue than we ever expected. Our own industrial revolution seem to coming back to bite us in the butt, but President Barack Obama is currently proposing a policy to Congress concerning cap and trade emissions. The policy calls for the auctioning off of permits to large emission companies. There will be a cap set to determine the amount of carbon released and carbon permits will be traded to carbon emitters. Since the U.S never signed the Kyoto Protocol, getting this passed through Congress will be a huge achievement and a positive thumbs up from other countries around the world. Obama wants to reduce emissions by 83% during the 2050. Although the legislation is being debated now, it might end up being crowded out by the controversial health care proposals. The President is using up tons of his political capital in order to get health care passed and it might be incredibly hard to squeeze cap and trade in there as well. There is also still public opposition to the policy because Americans just don’t seem to care about global warming because it doesn’t seem to affect their current day to day lives, but U.S citizens must open up their eyes and look to the bigger picture. Melting ice caps, depleting animal habitats and resource wars are just small scale consequences to a much larger problem. If Congress doesn’t follow through, we’re going to be expecting warmer winters.
Okay, maybe green colored valentines might not sound very nice. Of course, red and all its other variations of shades look best on this romantic day, but there still are ways to care for the enviornment on this love filled day. Lets have some tips.
1. So you guys know how when we were younger, we had to buy valentines cards for every kid in your class? Its all sweet to care about everyone and all but really, did kids really care about them? No not really, they cared for the candy. The paper really was a pretty big waste. So thats the first tip, reduce the amount of paper used for valentines cards. use e-cards, they’re more creative and they’re prettier, and you can send it to so many more people!
2. The Special Dinner. So guys, taking your lover out to dinner? Be careful when choosing what to eat and all. You know the deal, don’t be wasteful and order what you can eat!
-A variation is if you decide to take dinner a step further and end up making a nice home cooked meal. Keep in mind that cooking meat emits much more smoke into the atmosphere than other types of food. Keep it fruity guys :]
3. CHOCOLATE. What’s valentines without chocolate! So if you have a sweet tooth, make a smarter choice and buy some organic chocolates for your lover. It tastes better, its better for the environment, and well, its better for your health. You can’t go wrong with chocolate guys.
When grocery shopping, we all know that now paper or plastic arent the only options. Nowadays, the third option, reusable grocery bags are becoming a much more common thing. There was a post a few months back about the awesome benifits to using these cool innovative bags, but then now theres a new subject– recycling the reusable bags. After months of tedious use, and grocery carrying, even the most durable reusable bags come to their experation. With rips of handles, or rips in the seams, or just worn out undurableness, we get the question, what do we do with them now? Just because they have served their purpose doesnt give a reason for us to dispose of them non enviornmentally friendly now. There is now an option to recycle your old, reusable bags: As stated by Robin Shreeves, “The ChicoBag Repurposing Program accepts “all your tired masses of reusable bags, functional or not” and distributes them to people who need them or recycles them into new products with the help of The Grateful Thread. The Grateful Thread takes the reusable bags that aren’t in good condition and handcrafts them into items like handbags, coasters, yoga mat bags, aprons and more. The proceeds from the sale of these items benefit Schuylkill Women in Crisis, a nonprofit organization that provides free and confidential services to victims of domestic violence in rural Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania.” Its wonderful, you get to make use of the already wonderful bags and help out your world! Get to it guys.
